Introducing....Weekend Exposure!
I felt inspired after stumbling upon this project here where there are twelve questions to be answered by typing in the answer in Flickr's search field, then posting a photo mosaic of all the answers. Super fun visually but I decided I wanted to make it an ongoing community project. Each friday I will post a new question under the heading "WE"; sometimes simple, other times not. But always something that unmasks a part of who we are or what makes us tick. It's an exciting way to interact weekly with you, dear readers, and to potentially create a larger community and I love that it is non-verbal (a challenge for some, I know). Since this is the first week we'll keep it on a lovely topic that doesn't burrow too deeply but is still revealing in many ways.

The last time I was "invited" to expose myself the end result was not pretty, but I suppose I can just this once. (Only because it's for my sister.)
I have to confess that I don't have a favorite book; the more I read the more I enjoy discovering the depths of literature itself. Whether a text is revealing of the author (which is an inevitability), breaking from traditional narrative structure or simply a good story, I'm able to find merit in it. That's not to say that I like everything I read, because that is far from the truth, but I find it easier to detach myself from the text and look at it more objectively than the previous text. I guess, however, if it's required to list favorites I will say:
1. Ulysses, for it's utter ability to break down the reader and force them to connect with the character(s). Not only was Joyce revolutionary in his experimentation with stream-of-conciousness but he has an uncanny command of the Enlish language. This is the only book I've ever read that had me gasping at the end.
2. Anything by Aldous Huxley. He is such a sophisticated writer in that he himself was a voracious reader. He delves into issues of conciousness at both personal and societal levels that is rarely rivalled by other writers. He was influenced heavily by Eastern thought.
3. Anything by Hermann Hesse. For the same reasons as #2 with a difference of his accesability. He is often times much easier to read.
4. William Blake, T.S. Eliot and W.B. Yeats for their wonderful poetic voices.
When it comes down to it, there is no favorite to be elaborated on. How about this as an answer: my favorite is books... :)
By the way, I didn't follow the rules... you should be used to it by now.

Of course you didn't follow the rules. Had you typed that answer into the flickr search field you would have crashed their server. This is the wordiest response to a "no words" project I have ever witnessed. I freakin' love you.

So I finished typing, read the rules, then mom wanted to go to Cactus and Tropical. Maybe next time I'll accurately participate... maybe.

This was hard for me to pick just ONE favorite book, and to be honest I cheated a little, because the picture I found for one of my favorite books actually also represents another set of favorite books too. I'm sure you'll see what I mean!
