Update on Dennis Owens

No that I am over my intial anger surrounding the near scam situation I looked into TNT a little more. The company is actually legit. The website you get linked to in the email reply, however, is a fake set up to look like TNT's home page. After a visit to the real site I found a helpful link regarding these scams. I forward the scam email to TNT who passes is on to the email/website provider. I think this is very cool on their part to offer a service.

Purchased

As a Valentine gift to ourselves Ryan suggested we purchase our flight to Germany that evening. I didn't look when he hit the "submit" button. In addition to this I had a conversation with my former roommate this morning and in the end it turns out she is now a future roommate as well. I get to live in the same apartment in Germany as the last time I was there. I guess this is all making things official and stuff....

Blow this Dennis Owens

On the lookout for a great deal on a laptop computer I am constantly scanning Craigslist for ads. Last week I came across a fabulous deal and pounced on it only to find that I nearly got scammed out of $700 bucks. The whole "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is" this just doesn't slide with me. Always an optimist I like to think that anything is possible. So it was a barely used macbook pro with a warrantee for $675. Heaven! What I recieved in response to my inquiry was this:

Hello,

The laptop is still available and I hope you are still interested. My name is Dennis Owens and I am now in Manchester, U.K. This machine has been used for professional needs over the past year, it is in great condition and runs perfectly, and beyond evidence of normal use there is only a small cosmetic blemish on the side which is shown in one of the pics. The warranty is fully transferable. One more thing, it works on US voltage so you do not need a converter. I have attached some pics with the laptop to this e-mail so you can see the condition of the laptop. Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Dennis

Manchester? Why ya selling in Salt Lake? I'm not buying a laptop if I can't touch it before I pay for it. After sending back a response with specific questions and concerns about the computer I recieved this...what seems like, and I later found out, is a form letter.

Hello

I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the laptop within 3-4 days. Obviously we need a safe way to complete this deal that will allow us to make sure we receive what we are after. I have found a way for us to complete the deal safely and fast, and in this way you will receive the laptop in less than 3 days, if you move fast as well. The solution is provided by a worldwide delivery company called TNT. TNT is similar to Fedex, DHL or UPS and they will provide assistance in hadling the payment and delivery of the laptop.
With this procedure you will have the change to test the laptop before I receive my payment.
The procedure is explained on the TNT webpage and please click on the link below to the TNT website to see how we can complete the deal safely and fast directly from the website of the company.

Let me know

Dennis

Check out the site....doesn't seem legit. I didn't have time to research the thing so Ryan looked some stuff up for me and found this forum. So, I am glad that I'm not THAT naive.....

My response to "Dennis", while I would have preferred, "fuck. you." simply said, "It's a no. Bogus "deal". The ad I found was quickly removed. So, in regards to craigslist I'd say live by the rule. If it seems to good, it probably is. Research.

You know where to stick that TNT Mr Owens.

Confessions of a Serial Monagamist Part One

Yeah, I am a girl who likes things warm and cozy. Stable. I am a nester. My first kiss turned in to a year and a half relationship. And while not all my relationships didn't last for-e-ver, there is one common denominator. Me. Getting real comfy, real fast. Even while sowing my wild oats and finding people to casually date, I can only end up keeping one at a time. Make out buddies? Forget it. If I am making out with you and suddenly find someone else to have fun with too a massive internal struggle ensues. Who do I choose?

Why is this bad? Well....I can't say I judge it to be bad, but I am only now having a big realization about this pattern. What I see in all these relationships and situations is Comfort. In talking to Karen she related it to board games. You roll the dice, you land on your spot, and don't much think or worry about it until forced to with the next roll of the die. Just a piece taking up some space in your square. There is no conscious choice to go on, or not. You just hang out until it is your turn to do something.

Well, that's how I play anyway. I tend to stick around because I genuinely like the person I am in relationship with and it is what I know. It is easier to stay on board than thinking up some new unknown future. And the cost of this comfort, for me, has always been compromise that results in not only losing my partner, but ultimately sight of myself.

With my current relationship I have promised myself to do it differently. To remember how important I am, and my happiness is, to the whole. This concept, however, is foreign in practice so really it has turned into an Independence or Death match. Being stubbornly insistent at times on a decision. And while I can see that this is an extreme move, it has so far been the only move I have been able to make.

So I am seeing now that the only way forward is to reconcile my old extreme pattern with my new extreme pattern. To find a way to gracefully move between the two. And to wake in the morning and see the IN hall and choose it instead of the YOU OR ME.

Worth the Wait

I somehow doom myself to always be late on giving gifts and Gabe's second birthday this year was no exception. He finally got his gift today and he loves it.....

He amused himself for nearly an hour in this tunnel. Just another reason I Love Ikea.

Thuggin'

Gabe adopted a new look this week....

....which made him feel tough so he thought he'd tag his territory.

Fun.

What am I Saying?
